1980 CB650Z Cafe Racer Project
Thought I'd add some photos from the project
I bought two bikes, one was fairly complete, the other was a box of bits and a frame, the plan is to make some form of Cafe Racer
This is the inspiration:
Here is the seat I have ready for it:
And the plan for a paint scheme on the tank which will be the standard one, is to create something along these lines and then follow through the whole bike with this colour scheme:

Re: 1980 CB650Z Cafe Racer Project
when I bough it,they came with a brand new still in the box stainless motad 4-1 system so I will probably end up using that as it will save me tracking down another, but I haven't had a good look at it yet to see what the can is like and if it will suit.
Currently in the process of buying/moving into a house so no real work will be done until Christmas time, Id like to say ill get it somewhere near ready for this summer but working away a lot means time is limited so it will probably become a slightly longer term project.

Re: 1980 CB650Z Cafe Racer Project
As I'm going to be stripping and replacing a lot of the standard parts on the bike is anyone interested in any particular parts? I can make a full list when I've properly starts but all I'll really be keeping in the frame, engine, forks, wheels, rear sets for now, brakes and tank.
so that means items like lights, grab rail, clocks, bars etc will be up for grabs.
I've also got a brand new standard seat that came with them, its not been fitted and is still wrapped up.

I would love to have the tail lite /seat but funds right now say no. And the shipping would be ridicules i'm sure.

I recommend you go for a GPS speedo, I did. No pickup required and you can hide the small GPS antenna

with speed hut you can customise the gauge on-line

Re: 1980 CB650Z Cafe Racer Project
Afternoon, bit of a small update, started buying some goodies for it, if I've got them there they'll inspire me to kick on so I'm currently turning the unused wet room at the back of the extension on the house into a temporary workshop to build the bike in.
Also think I've decided on a paint scheme for the tank etc and have decided to keep it in the Honda family and go for this type of design, the only issue is i cant work out what colour blue they are as there seems to be 2 types, a planet blue and a Polynesian blue which would appear to be almost identical, anyone able to shed some light on that?

Looks great! really like the levers you picked out, not a fan of the klunky gigantic old ones.

According to http://www.motorera.com/honda/h0750/four.htm
your CB750 pictures probably show "Planet Blue Metallic".
Here is something about the color codes:
