head bolt washers

Postby davesee » Wed Jul 20, 2011 6:43 am

the moment of truth has come and we are getting ready to button everything up, but....

some of the head bolt washers have fallen out of their holes, and we aren't exactly sure where they belong, and there are two different sizes...anyone know where these go?

The "washers" should go under every bolt head. Dont know about the one that look like shim stock.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

cool...we have now accounted for the washers by careful inspection, as some seem pretty happy to stay in their holes, even through the cleaning process. the thin ones still remain a mystery, and we can't for the life of us figure out why there are seven (there's no way we lost five!) and there don't seem to be any still sitting in their holes.

they must have come from somewhere, but they are not listed in the parts fiche.

we may go ahead and button up without the thin ones.

There should be 8 of those really thin ones. They go between the head and the valve springs.

ah, that was my first thought, but i'm pretty sure we double checked that, and i think the valve spring ones are a larger diameter, however they are the same thickness and material. i'm going to to triple check just to be sure.

...also, it would mean that my dad's bagging of parts is suspect, which is impossible!!!

Since there are two sizes of springs there are also two sizes of shims... The larger diameter shim goes directly on the head, and the smaller shim goes on the "step" for the smaller spring.

Here's the two part numbers:
14775-107-000 - "Valve spring seat" large
14776-107-010 - "Valve spring seat" small

I don't know if this link will work, but you can hopefully see an exploded view HERE
