Re: '79 CB650 in Iron & Air Magazine
hmmm... I don't like it... Not sure why, but I just don't..
It is like the bike was... reduced... somehow. I think it looks like some of the botched skeletonized choppers I see ads for now and then, where someone lays out how many thousands they put into the project which is ugly as sin, and then say they can't let it go for more than 8 times what the original bike cost as new. If it was worth so much, why don't they keep it as it was, or at least moderate what they are charging because the end result still does not run even close to right, or is not even street legal? I see it on Craig's List all the time...
To each his own I suppose. Someday I hope that if I sell mine, I will get at least what I paid (and more would be nice ) but I sure hope nothing I ride ever looks like THIS thing... Just... wow...

I like the swingarm/monoshock and the front-end swap. The seat and rear are too "minimalist" for my tastes, though. I'll bet it'd be fun to drive, though!

Pinhead, I can see your point about the rear end, but I guess what is throwing me off is that there is "something missing" back there, and I think that was the entire point of chopping all that out. Of course, that mono shock mount probably makes the bike ride better... and if I did not weigh almost 300 pounds, that massive rear sprocket would be handy.... Still don't like that seat though!

That bike is a perfect example of what happens when you fail to set specific design goals, and allow to many sources influence your vision.
You start at the front with a strong bobber feel. Then progress half way to a maybe its a street racer. Finally finishing up with total confusion, and deciding that what you really wanted was a hill climber. What you end up with is a bike with an identity crisis!
Quite honestly. I see a bike that was picked up for next to nothing, or less. The owner thinking that because he got the bike for so little. Should not have to put anything more into it. So the bike was built with parts that were scammed, or at least given to them. But hey! It didn't cost anything, and the owner was not about to spend money for something that worked better. Speaking of which. What is with that humongus box hanging off the bottom rear of the frame? Kinda kills the clean lines. Don't you think?
Now I get it!!
Its a motocross built for the street!
Makes about as much sense as an 4WD with street tires. AKA Stupid Urbanite Vehicle!
I would offer the guy $500, and strip it down for parts. The motor is worth that much. About the only good thing on the bike!

I just saw this thing online earlier today, not sure how I feel about it either. I can appreciate the work put into it but I'm not crazy about the mono shock rear I think
Re: '79 CB650 in Iron & Air Magazine
And he thought the riding stance on the stock cb was shitty.. hah
Re: '79 CB650 in Iron & Air Magazine
That stance screws everything up, that mile gap to the seat ruins it.
