should the oil level be at the top of the cross hatches or in the area above them pic in manual hard to tell.

it should be at the top of the cross hatches.

The measurement is done with the dipstick just dipped in, not screwed.
The crossed area covers the min-max range.

Thanks Guys thats what I thought the po had it higher than the cross hatch and the book said not to screw in but was hard to tell on the level.
