Stator and Rotor

Postby jandreoli » Thu Jan 10, 2008 4:20 pm

ok so I bought a 650 with a charging problem, and was told this, did not think it would be a big problem, finding a stator and rotor is a pain, Ebay well I have
not been so successful to say the least, well I finally ran across one that I won, but I should have asked, its from a 1983 CB 650, and it looks like the one from
a nighthawk s, did they change the system between 1982 and 1983 for the cb650??? if so can it still be used with some modifications??? or should I put it back
on ebay.

The '83 CB650 charging system is is completely different than '79 to '82 models. You can expand your search, however, by also searching for '79 up (not sure how far it goes) CB750's, 900's, 1000's, and 1100's.

Once you get the rotor replaced you'll probably have to also replace the regulator/rectifier combo. It's expensive from Honda and you don't know what you're getting from Ebay so you may want to build your own. Total it cost me about $25 and all you have to do is run wires.

Here's the link for my plans:

It uses a '70s Ford regulator unit, and a rectifier that you can get at either radio shack or order online. I've been running it on my '79 CB650 for a few years now and haven't had any charging problems. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat. I found a rebuilt rotor on Ebay, someone local gave me a regulator as the old one's harness was melted to the burned out stator's wiring harness.

Now I can't find a stator anywhere. I hate to have to scrap the bike for a minor part.
