RE: Carbs Need help putting them back together 1981

Postby klougnot » Wed Jun 02, 2010 1:30 pm

Just got a new to me 1981 CB650 in rough shape, but with only 4700 miles for $300 bucks! Took my carbs aparts, put them in the dip, and now I am having trouble getting them back together.

My problem is that I don't know how the right choke assembly attaches to the left. I am close, but I can get all four choke flaps synchoized so they move together. No matter what I try the right choke flaps will not play nicely and move with the left.

I usually do mikuni carbs so these keihins are proving to be a challenge. I could really use a pic to see how they are supposed to go together. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks, but they don't look like my carbs.

Mine are more like these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CARBURATOR-KAIHIN-44A-CB650-HONDA-CB-650-CUSTOM-81-/150427983644?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item230634df1c

I know if I had a blow up pic I could see how the two chokes attach to each other.

Thanks!

Welcome here! :D
I posted a drawing of the CV carbs here: 1981 Honda CB650C PCV Valve
Not really good in details, but I hope that already helps.
I am quite sure that there was a picture of the CV carbs choke cam spring mechanism some time ago, maybe you like to browse for it. I am a bit running out of time for today.

Thanks good diagram! The exploded view doesn't show how the chokes connect together.

Sorry, had to leave yesterday.
I just found the high idle thread with the great pictures of Niedernut that should be helpful for you.
Here you find another picture for CV carbs and the thread trip to the Carb Dark Side shows how it looks like for the piston type carbs.

That is it right there! Figured it out last night but this pic you posted shows it nicely. The key is the thin detal floss size wire is used to connect the two chokes together. Thank You all for your help this form has far exceeded my expectations. Being a noob to the cb this is a big help!

Thanks Again!

Now only if I can fix the rusted spokes by replacing them or finding a new rear wheel. :D

It will need lots of tough of love, but I will get it eventually. Being left outside for a couple years hasn't helped things either. On the plus side all the ratty clear coat is almost completely gone which will make polishing much easier. I will get some pics up soon.
