Running on 2 cyl

Postby ekos » Sat Apr 03, 2021 5:52 am

Hi everyone
Just started my 79 650 z up after winter storage and it runs rough and it seems only running on cyl 3and 4 ? Headers on 1 and 2 are cold, 3 and 4 is warm

Im thinking it should not be coils since both coils seems to work on cyl 3 and 4?
Could this be a carb issue, if im lucky this is a known issue easily fixed, hope some of you distinguished experts might advice on how to fix ?

Please advice ?

First check that cables from left coil go to spark plugs 1+4, from right coil to 2+3.
I would start with swapping the cyl. 1 vs. 4 spark plugs and see what happens then as this is easily done.

If you did not drain the carb bowls before winter storage consider a carb issue. Most probably in this case are plugged idle jets and maybe the channels behind the jets are partly not free any more, too.

Some people report "winter guest" activities in the airbox. So a look inside there might be a good idea, too.
