I would just bypass it with a thick cable from the ignition switch to the regulator and see if charging voltage differs when you connect it. If yes, this cable is poor.
Resistance check is possible, too, should be well below 1Ohm.

Yes, you should see this AC voltage between either pair of the three yellows.
If nothing, the interesting thing is if there is 12V from the regulator to the rotor between the black and white cables (regulator side).
