So why wont it fit? It's in its home (groove) but the bolts won't align right, the only way they will fit is if it's out of it's grove, wrongly installed hitting the crank.. I see why so many have problems with this because without moving the pan it seems correctly installed. I've never had this problem before this is my third time rebuilding a cb650. ?? Sorry late night most likely will figure it out tomorrow just need some feedback.
I've completely cleaned out the groove thinking theres dirt lodged in there.. no go its sqeauky clean.
There any way a 1980 cam chain tensioner is slightly different then a 81?
Cam chain tensioner same through 79-81 right?
Re: Cam chain tensioner same through 79-81 right?
May have to pull the jugs up to have the adjuster bolt align to the hole, once that is done use a wood mallet to tap it all back in place. Don't remove jugs completely only enough for the bolt. Be careful as you could destroy the jug gasket.

They should be the same...they were for my 1980 and 1982.
Sounds like something isn't lining up correctly. If it is not in the groove when you line up the bolt with the hole (too high), might be the jug isn't seated all the way.
