I hope not to forget to measure that until next week. Possibly you find the data as additional info in some parts list. I know the bolt diameter is 20mm, so my guess for the thread would be M20x1.5 or close to it. If you like to do it yourself, the pitch is just the distance between turns, but measure several at once and divide by the number of gaps (don't count the first turn! ) to get a reasonable accuracy.
But in any case, I would go to the shop with the bolt in my hand to see whether it really fits to what they are willing to sell me.

There is a tool for checking threads per inch or per mm
The shop should be able to check the bolt and tell you what it is if it is not to bad a shape. or just go to a local hardware store in the bolt section you
can compare your bolt with one they have to find out what size it is.
Good luck

Take the bolt to the hard ware store, bike shop and ask them,
The size the tap or die size is the diam of bolt and threads per mm or inch.
Hope this helps.

Well if the case stripped your gonna have problems. If you go bigger the oil filter will not fit. But if the case is stripped you only have 2 options bigger and longer.

Another option may be a helicoil. Actualy I'd prefer this over the hassle of fighting the different bolts / filters etc.

If you have have to do thread repair ''Time-sert'' is superior to Heli-coil. IMHO.

Interesting I've used helicoils but I like the looks of these others.

I'm assuming your dad is Dennis?
If so your fix is in the mail as I type this.
If you want to contact me, I usually hang around SOHC4.net, same user name. I only get on here once in a while, on SOHC I'm on every day.
Gimme a PM over there if you want to contact me.
I put my phone # in the package as well.

20x1.5 mm threads IS what that filter bolt measures.
I made the center stud about 10+mm longer than the stocker ones I make, so it should be ok.

As already confirmed by others, my measurement also found M20x1.5.
Helicoil has the advantage of being slim, however may come out easier if not cemented correctly.
Soos, as I understood you are welding a ~10mm cylinder in the bolt after cutting it to make use of the remaining intact thread depth? Or one long one out of two stock? Or are you even able to make hollow bolts yourself?

I'd like to see how your doing it as I guess I don't get it.

Any chance I can talk you into taking pics of the process? unless this has already been done.

Mine doesn't need it I'm just curious.
