80 CAFE RAT BUILD

Postby LyndonJStinson » Wed Sep 09, 2009 8:40 am

So, I spent the better part of five hours in the garage yesterday afternoon, I have had this bike almost two weeks and it's half together half in a box state was really irritating me so the work began.

Installed carbs and hooked up choke and throttle, painted tank and side panels flat acrylic black. Put second coat of high heat header paint on headers and wrapped them in exhaust tape, looks cool so far.

The idea for this bike is a 50's Rat rod café racer look. I still am not sure what I am going to do with the ass end but am open to ideas.

I also found some bars that emulate clip on's, I think I will be ordering them this weekend. I will also post some pics tommorow or Sat.

Welcome here! :D
I guess you were the first one to be happy about an easy and reasonable carb installation procedure at a CB650, but unfortunately Chris is right.

I bet hooking up the throttle cable and choke was a nightmare.

I had to but all new cables and no wonder it would only run at extreme lean angles, was leaning off other side of bike every corner.

Good thing, I was just mocking it all up :)

Looks like progress. Don't forget to fix your rear axle before your first ride.
Fixing the exhaust and silencer might be tricky, only one bolt foreseen far at the rear and nothing yet close to fix it. I'd consider an additional (clamp) holder to the frame at the level of the end of the black exhaust part.

What do you plan on doing with the air intake? leaving it stock or going pods or what?

Thanks for the tips dudes!

As for intake I am planning on going with pods. It still needs a lot of work nefore riding, I have a daily rider anyway so I am in no hurry. I think Christmas day will be my first ride as long as the weather co-operates, that's the goal anyway. I am also planning to build a racebike this winter when this bike is done-ish
