Looks pretty cool Joe. I wish it were warmer here so I could ride my bike. Its supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow. :(

It looks cool two tone like that. You gonna leave it like that or paint it?

Is the engine number of the black one starting with RC08E ..?
But the clutch lever is at the bottom of the clutch cover, isn't it?
To avoid confusion: CV (constant velocity) carb numbers start with VB(44) or VA, the narrower piston carb numbers start with PD(51) or PB.
Original RC08 heads should be only available for piston (PD) carbs.

Im leaving it two tone , it is a RC08E motor the head was for the VB44 carbs, thats why i decided to swap heads I am more confident in the PD carbs and I didn't like how my airbox mod was going. the clutch is on the bottom.

This was a replacement motor never in a bike until I mounted it

That's interesting because all the RC08E I ever had a closer look had the clutch lever at the top. And I think two gears are different, too.
Although there should be no stock black PD head, did you try/measure whether the black head is really for the CV carbs? From the pictures I would say the intake spacing looks rather like for PD's.

Joe,

I was going to call you back but I didn't know your schedule and didn't want to be calling in the middle of your night. What all do you have left on the bike? Give me a call again sometime. You just caught me walking out the door with one of my kids in my arms or I could have talked longer.

Thanks for clarifying. It's been some time since I've seen a CV head. My irritation probably came from the fact that the outer intakes spacing is smaller for them although the cutout in cooling fins is a bit larger.
BTW, excellent work. :D

yeah and the intakes are the same diameter, its ashame they respaced them, maybe with custom boots they could mate up, but I don't care to experiment.

hahha.....

or you could drop those old carbs like a bad habit, throw that CV head back on, and run kawasaki ninja 600cc carbs.
:):)
they drop in almost perfectly spaced(like 1/32 off) and mount to the CV head well.

They also fit on the non CV heads if you use the ninja 600cc ('84-'91/'92) carb isolators...
Ask me how I know....... Mabey I'm riding my '79 with a set???

Another option if you are still going with the non-CV head, is cb750 carbs.
They line up perfectly.

However if you ever coma across a set of VB44D carbs, they are the best stock CV cb650 carbs out there I have had my hands into.
The set I came across came out of canada.

Anywhoo.... Nice project.
Looking forward to seeing what the outcome is!

CV cb650 carbs will also fit on the NON CV cb650 head IF you use a set of carb isolators from the above mentioned kawasaki ninja.
