This is what she looked like when I bought her in the Fall of 2005. Not much has changed, but I shot the tank with semi-gloss black last weekend. I'll be painting the sidecovers to match as soon as I find an extra RH cover with a sticker decal.

I really like the look of the 4 into 4 exhausts. :D Now THAT is a sissy bar. Looks pretty cool with the custom's tall front tire.

Thanks. I kinda like the exhaust too, but if I don't find a used replacement, I'll either have to fabricate a 4-4 or purchase what's available. There's some rust and leaks there. Can we bolt-on exhausts from 550's or 750's if those models even came with 4-4? I dig the sissy bar, but there's some hokey mounting there if you look real close. I could weld some brackets where those pieces of strap steel were used in the back, but that would damage the chrome. I haven't decided what I'm gonna do there. God, I love to tinker  Gotta concentrate on those swingarm bushings first.

The exhaust could be welded using stainless steel. It has the advantage that it can be polished quite reasonably. As usually welding is only necessary at the bottom, the look is not too bad. I still have the pipes which were on it when I bought it in 1992. Three are welded meanwhile.

Installed a set of MAC 4 into 2's last week. These pipes are not meant for CB650Custom's, but I put 'em on anyway :) All I had to do was modify the little arm that sticks out on the centerstand so it would fold up all the way and the sidestand hits when I fold it up. Haven't decided what I'm gonna do about that yet.

Unfortunately, these mufflers(silencers) are louder than my rotten old stocker 4 into 4's :? But I've discussed it with a few fellow riders, and they don't think they're too loud. They say that I just need to get used to the new sound  The neighbors claim that they haven't heard me pull in the drive at 11PM. I'll see if I can put together a detailed thread on the install and possibly a sound file in a couple of weeks as I have alot going on right now.

MAC part#001-0808 for CB650 79-82(NOT Custom).

NEW FOR FALL OF 2008

I had a little down time due to a broken throttle cable and decided to freshen 'er up a bit... New paint on engine, tank and side covers. Red pinstriping tape on tank and side covers. Chrome trim on tank seam. New mirrors. New (red) plug wires and resistor caps. Case guards and highway pegs. Oh, and new throttle and clutch cables.

Good job. Looks fine, although red would not have been my first choice for the stripes.

Thank you, Volker. I chose red stripes because of my red wires and bungee cords. That's about all the thought I put into it. Anyway, if we all liked the same colors on our bikes, this part of the forum would be very boring.

Brando,

I was thinking about blacking out everything as well. wounder how that would look... Oh well now that was before I started planning the AK trip. That would undo and restoring I do to it.

i think it'll have sort of a night hawk flavor to it, especially since i've got a night hawk tank on mine. i wanna do the engine/transmition case, the head and lower forks black. probably the carbs too. and polish the rocker covers and those caps on the tops of the carbs. i'm not sure if i wanna black out the exhaust or not i'd have to see the chrome on a black engine befor i commit. i also keep thinking about blasting my comstars and polishing them too. it'd be unique at least. with some nice teardrop mirrors and a nice comfy touring seat. i'd be all set

They are Willie & Max... Not real leather, but close enough... Could stand to be a little bigger... got 'em used off eBay.

Arcangel, the chrome is door and edge moulding for trucks. It comes in a roll from most parts stores and maybe some department stores. Make sure you get the more expensive brand with glue inside it and install on a hot day. Keep pressing it on until it stops trying to return to its original form and then put it someplace cool so it stays that way. It's far from permanent.
