1981 Honda CB 650 c

Just got this bike free from the storage lockers..its been stood since 2002..

and only has 19000 miles

Needs master cyclinder and new battery...fired up like a champ this morning
but im easing it in slowly

Do you think I should keep it original or do something with it ...any ideas for my first project.

think its going to need a new exhaust too..any recommendations appreciated..

Well it definitely looks ready to paint!
I'm a sucker for the CB so I would say keep it as original as you can.
But to each their own!

Yeah, that's an awesome looking bike! Looks better than mine and I've been working on it since spring break. I say keep it the way it is. It looks great!
So...when will your bike be finished? Umm, never. It is an old bike, there's always gonna be something to do!

Looks good. As its mostly complete I'd keep it stock (mostly) and as the infection gets worse and you have a parts bike or two build something else.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

The only two things I would do is paint it and do something with the rear fender/taillights.

I think ya right ... Im going to keep it as is..maybe a new lick of the silver paint
and some new parts here and there.. I cleaned out the old gas yesterday
and I keep firing her up just to listen but i think im pissing off the neibours :)

Congratulations that it just fires up and runs. But still time to look inside the tank for possible dirt and corrosion.
Bike looks good but also like moving parts and cables need to be lubricated urgently. Maybe chain, too.
Care for such stuff and go riding a bit before you consider changes.

Note that tires get hard and slippery with time. You'll probably be lost on wet and cold roads with before 2002 tires. Less critical on hot, dry roads however. Nevertheless be aware that the rear wheel tends to early blocking on the brake. Modern type tires help a lot to improve the poor chassis, especially at the rear.

Thanks again great info..will be doing all checks and upgrades as i go...

1st problem : I got a new master cyclinder kit because the front brake just wont bleed up...Iv fitted the kit and its still not pumping brake fluid !@#$ any sugestions ?

Well aside from making sure the master cylinder is moving fluid, check the brake hose. The hole in the metal ends is pretty small & gets clogged easy after years. I had the same problem, I used a small piece of wire to clean it out & everything is good now. If that's ok, check the caliper. basically find out at what point the fluid stops coming from.

Thanks again ! ..think i have solved it ...there are 2 holes in the reservoir.

one is obvious...the second not so..and is much smaller..both these holes need to be free....

Yeah, one of the holes is basically just a needle prick. I am rebuilding my master cylinder as well and it has been about a month since I took it apart for cleaning. I cannot for the life of me remember which way the spring goes and how did you get the rubber cap thing to go into the bore on top of the spring??? It is a tight fit.

Im havin same prob...I think from wat i can remember ..the spring with the hole attached to it goes in first..then the rubber cap...but...that rubber cap
fits perfect the other way round with the hole on the spring..but is tighter...ahhh !@#$..

Thanks! That clears up my doubts with the mc rebuild. Now all I have to do is put it together and hope everything works normally! :roll:
