Re: Is there any saving this fuel tank?
OK, when the fuel level gets below the end of the tube then you run out of gas. Then you switch over to reserve and gas flows into the petcock bypassing the tube (and filter if it was still in there). If you run with the petcock in reserve from the beginning you won't know when gas is getting low.

Re: Is there any saving this fuel tank?
Does it still have the hollow brass tube sticking up from the petcock? If it doesn't then the reserve feature won't work

Re: Is there any saving this fuel tank?
I hope you had removed the petcock filter screen and so before that chain job. Uhhhhh... Take the petcock and screen filter out if there even is one. If not damaged (probably, as it's plastic) then clean and put back in. Petcocks are insanely expensive and most are not interchangeable...

Givi customer service
I bought a used Givi windscreen on eBay. When it got here it was missing a part. Contacted Givi USA and spoke to Gary who is sending me the part at no charge. Just thought I would mention it in this day of customer no-service how refreshing it is.

Re: Removing the Carbs
There are several techniques for getting the carb rack off the bike. I loosened the boots from the airbox end and worked the airbox to the rear. Held it back out of the way with a bungee cord. loosened boots at the head assembly and worked the carb rack rearward. A little fussing and patience may be...

bad day
Pulled the 650 outside to wash the pollen off. When I put it back I threw the cover on and kneeled down to reach under and retrieve the tie down cord. When I went to stand up I put my hand on the right foot peg to help (I am old). Next thing I knew the bike had tipped over onto me from the side stan...

Re: Carb vent T thought
I ended up using stainless aquarium T fittings. Joined 1&2 with one, and 3&4 with the other and routed the two lines to the rear of the engine. This has been on for a couple of years now with no problems. I would think that the nylon vacuum Ts would be ok as these are just vent lines and don...

Re: Carb vent T thought
Not understanding the proper configuration at first, I just joined them together with a straight piece of tubing. Big mistake! Gas poured out of the carburetor intakes.

Re: Is there any saving this fuel tank?
A nice tank is apparently made out of unobtainum. I looked for two years before lucking out and finding a nearly new one. Good luck.

Re: Is there any saving this fuel tank?
You are correct that I have no welding skills. I did not want to waste that tank because, other than what you see on the bottom, the tnk looks great. If the JB Weld works, I was intending to use a tank sealant on it as well. Welding a gas tank takes skills that I do not posses either. I have used J...

Re: Is there any saving this fuel tank?
A hole that size on the bottom, plus possibly pin holes elsewhere, I would have it welded. Unless you are a very good welder which I suspect you may not be, then have a shop do it. These tanks are almost impossible to find in good shape so probably worth fixing. I like JB Weld but wouldn't trust it ...
