I agree with Volker, Go out riding on the bike and if you do not like it then think about getting rid of it.

wow! so it is true. there must be an additional ingredient in the motorcycle specific oil. maybe something that increases the viscosity?

I currently use Penzoil 10W40. When I had a Yamaha150 I used to use Castrol 10W50.

I would echo the above made statements, avoid fancy oil. Just stick to the regular 10W40. But I am intrigued that by changing the oil you started getting less oil leakage.

How much are people willing to offer? And don't worry about the miles, these things last forever if taken good care of.

If you can get the bike to run then you are almost there. It maybe the carb sync problem but before attempting that please remember to first reset your valve clearances and ignition timing.
