Re: Do you need a special tool to adjust valves?
Special tool does make the thing easier... a lot! I made it myself, from a long neck no10 socket and a piece of screw tapered to be the screwdriver. Most handy is to finish this "screwdriver" with a plate with indicated sections (a'la rose of winds) so it's easy to keep the setting while t...

Re: Fork Seals
Theoretically - yes. But I don't see a point. You must unscrew the top clamp to open the fork, to screw/unscrew the bolt at the bottom of the fork. You must take the wheel off. So what's the big deal with loosening the bottom screw on the triple tree and have it all out? it's easier then to handle....

Re: Starting/Running Problems
Any fuel leaks from the carbs are sign of faulty float valves in the carbs. And it sounds like a crab clean and maybe replacement of air filter is due...

Re: The Carb Synching tool.
OK, here are my experiences: There are simple screws with nuts, no magic there, BUT they are difficult to access. The most difficult one is between 2&3. Anyway - after few tries, I noticed that locking with nut causes the adjustment going out. So, I set the nuts as close as I could, set the scre...

Re: 110 Octane?
I have exactly the same situation with oil, and most probably this winter I will look into piston rings change and new set of top end gaskets. If you are planning on buying something like that, let's pool. Seriously!

Re: 110 Octane?
75 mpg? So downhill you switched off the engine? I do it quite often in the mountains, but that time it was flatlands. I was just slowly purrrrrring ahead on 5th gear.. :D Anyway - back to the topic - too high consumption is mostly wrong mixture or mixture being supplied wrong by the carbs. E...

Re: 110 Octane?
I read somewhere that at 45mph these things are supposed to get almost 85mpg. i've read that too, but i don't think that's accurate. i've put about 15000 miles on my bike this summer and i've averaged about 50mpg give or take. your mpg is really low though. how's your air filter? any air leaks? fue...

Re: oil pressure sending unit?
.... i'm gonna proceede with removing the oil pan as soon as i can get a gasket for it, and limit my driving as much as i can, and keep my rpm's up when i gotta ride. Ahem, I was taking it off without any troubles without new gasket - just before assembly I put some Permatex sealant, and all is wel...

Re: oil pressure sending unit?
My bet goes for the funnel screen blockage. You should be able to take the oil pan off without taking off the exhaust and access the funnel, so try it too.

Re: 110 Octane?
And last but not least - carbon build up. And, contrary to the popular opinion, it doesn't raise the compression, it causes the carbon deposits to glow, hence promoting detonation. Those engines were designed to go on even lower octane (in 80's), so there's no reason apart of mistuning, or something...

Re: 110 Octane?
Ahem, don't get me wrong, but before you will decide what "your bike loves" educate yourself on the point of RON, OCT, and others. On the contrary - unless you can hear pinging, or you have boosted compression pistons, you may actually do more harm than good by putting in higher octane. Ju...
