Re: Proper battery connection. Need help
Welcome here! :D Sorry, I found no wiring digram for the DOHC here any more. There had been one at: http://www.hondacb650.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9451&p=65851 but it seems missing now. Maybe worth a try to send a private message to member "Grumpyoldowl". Or try https://www.cb750c.c...

Re: Air jet covers + gaskets in VB44A/C carbs. What in the world do these do?
I did not have CV carbs on a CB650 so I have no direct statement to this issue. But I know from the piston carbs that there are e.g. versions with and without air cutoff diaphragms. All PD carbs have the diaphragm covers but in most carbs there are no air cutoff diaphragms and the corresponding chan...

Re: SEARCHING FOR DUAL DISC FRONT SPOKED WHEEL
These spoke conversion rims are interesting. An maybe they do not look strange at a dual disk front wheel. But it would be probably very difficult to legalize this here in Germany. With regard to "rather pleasure to ride than a challenge" I recommend stiffer front fork springs and heavier ...

Re: Leaky rocker shaft bolt o-ring. Straightforward replacement?
As far as I remember this bolt is just the plug for the rocker shaft (6).
So basically it should be as simple as you assume.

Re: Any jetting needed for 4-2-1 exhaust on otherwise stock '82?
As the CV (VA44) carbs are not that sensitive to air or exhaust mods as the piston (PD51) carbs you probably do not need to care for jetting. But as the CB650 stock jetting is already quite lean it is a good idea to have a look at the plugs. It is all right that CB650 plugs are a bit white. If you m...

Welcome here!
Good to have some feedback like yours from time to time as the activities in this forum became quite low in the past years.
So this forum still seems to be of some use.

Interesting choice of tires!
These rear shocks with regulation reservoir look interesting. Do you have some info on them?

Re: RC03 motor in my 82 Nighthawk. Not original motor?
Good to hear you did not wreck your engine and you were lucky with your ebay replacement. There are a few reports on cam chain guides with missing side walls in this forum but I think this is no typical issue. You may check out the cam chain tensioner for correct position: http://www.hondacb650.com/...

Re: RC03 motor in my 82 Nighthawk. Not original motor?
Welcome here! :D All the RC03 and RC05 frames came with RC03-E engines. The cylinder head was different from 1981 on to match the wider spacing between the CV carbs. To my knowledge the RC08 came only with the black RC08-E engine that all had the CV carbs with the screwed idle jets (VB44C). An final...

Re: Bigger front disc, seen this bike?
The 1982 standard has a one dual piston caliper. Comparing with pictures in the "show it off" section may help to find out if it was used here.
No idea about the disk.

Re: CB650Z alternative indicators / turn signals
Sounds like you want to go to a direction like this bike: http://www.hondacb650.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15106 I am not sure if the steering stems of RC03 and RC05 frames are the same length. In any case be very careful when you consider to swap CB650 parts of different models and years as often ...

Re: CB650Z alternative indicators / turn signals
The circular front indicators are mounted in a quite quite different way for the RC05 frames/models. There chromed "sleeves" carry the headlight and turn signals. There are rubber parts that connect them to the fork triangles. For details see parts 14 to 17 in https://www.partzilla.com/cat...

Re: battery understanding question
I am not sure if I understand this question properly. 14.x Volts is the end-of-charge voltage. At this level the regulator makes sure that you have no charging current any more (or charging is compensated more or less exactly by consumption if you want). So the battery voltage is kind of a measure o...

Re: battery understanding question
Welcome here Erik! :D Your voltages for the first battery seem reasonable. 12.7V without load might be a bit weak but as long as it is able to turn the engine when it is hot there is no need to worry. The end-of-charge voltage (Ladeschlußspannung) is given by the cell chemistry. Even for lead batter...
