Re: CB650C carb adjustment?
Volker is right about the choke when cold, but are you sure about 2.25 turns? I'm sure my manual says 1.5 turns out, but to be honest I don't think this is the problem. when you say it dies when you crack the throttle, what does it do when you blip it (i.e. you activate the accelerator pump)? I assu...

Re: Battery for my 650 - Cranking amps?
I recommend a lithium Motorcycle battery (smaller size, bigger capacity and lighter) I've been using a Ballistic battery for a season now and cannot fault it. The link below is the one I chose. Massive cold cranking capacity and all the scuttlebutt about them having poor initial cranking capacity wh...

Re: Crankshaft bearings
In my internet search when I needed some I found a few sets with different oversizes but as I expect you have found no one has a complete set in one size. It is ok to have the crank journals ground to different oversizes (just a pain in the ass) and you have to be careful you match the right journal...

Re: inlet manifolds.
poor idle (lumpy)
if you have a carb balancer kit, the vacuum is lower and erratic
flat spot when accelerating
hard starting
I've all these symptoms when I had a cracked rubber. what finally forced me to sort it was the hard starting and poor idle

Re: Burned out fuse
The fuse that burnt out is your main fuse. I would start by removing all the top fuses so you can isolate the different circuits. Get a few spare main fuses (as you will blow more of them) start by replacing the main fuse (with ignition switch off) without any other fuses in. If it blows then the fa...

In my opinion bad advice is worse than no advice and can be costly.
speaking personally, If I know about someone's issue I will always respond but I will never have a guess out of the blue.
As for petlocks for an 82 nighthawk, buggered if I know about anything about them

Re: fork seal replacement
mainerider is correct, you have it upside down so will be harder to install anyway they are a tight fit as well, with respect to size, I would say it the diameter of the chrome plunger is correct on the seal it is likely to fit in the bottom piece but there again others may have more info, but in th...

Re: Pushing in the slow jets
the idle jets are an interference fit so they need to be snug, I use a toffee hammer on mine (very small hammer) to tap them in. They have been in and out 5 times with no issues
you will know when they are seating in fully as the sound changes when you lightly tap them

Re: Two throttle cables necessary ?
its in case the spring fails when the throttle is open,
as it happens I don't have two cables as I have a modified Harley throttle grip that does not have two cables, not had a problem (so far )

Re: Free play in forks
check the same way as the MOT man tested and see where the play is, check front wheel bearings (wheel will move on the shaft when you twist it) also check the forks in the same way, but to get noticeable play like that they would need to be buggered and likely leaking oil very badly. That MOT classi...

I did this on my custom for the same reasons, as long as you are a descent welder, you will need to plate over the seam as well to strengthen it
