Re: Need help ASAP!

did you hone the cylinders before fitting new rings?

At the top of the cylinder there will be a ridge where the old rings came up to at TDC, you might be finding that the thickness of the new rings is binding at TDC on this ridge.

Re: Picture Update

Yes Volker_P they were disassembled (carefully) and rebuilt with high grade M8 Stainless. when I was thinking of doing it there was quite a bit of posting on the dangers of doing it badly, but 2500 miles later have not had any problems the fork brace came from Fast From The Past in the US (https://w...

Re: Charging Test

simplest way is to test the voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running, there are specs in the manual for voltage against RPM, as a guide 14.1Volts at 2000 RPM is the sign of a healthy charging system If you want to take it further, keep checking the voltage as the engine warms up to o...

Re: 1979 CB650 Headlight

the difference is amazing, get a good quality one (brand name) and the mirror will be good and the lens will have a good pattern. Don't go for a higher rating bulb as it will put too much strain on your wiring etc.

The light is whiter and bluer

Re: Need carbs for 1980 or 1981 CB650

you will need the PD51 carbs to fit your bike, (1981 and earlier).

the latest CV carbs will not fit.

here's a rack on ebay.co.uk to give you the correct ones

Re: Carb/idle question

I believe the fast idle screw is the one that opens the throttle slightly when you pull on the choke cable, and operates on the choke lever cam

yes if this is miss-set or more likely worn then it would have an impact on cold starting. The manual describes how to set it up

Re: Carb/idle question

and don't forget to crank the throttle 6 times before starting from cold, even with the choke closed.

it will also not idle cleanly without choke until warm

Re: Issue with Air box

riding in the rain, no problem (and I'm in England!), no re-jetting required, I used to run pod filters and hated the way the bike ran! but with these there is no bogging down and when you put a vacuum gauge on to balance the carbs I get a higher more stable vacuum at idle speeds if you want the Aut...

Re: Need A Starter Clutch

the Torx bolts will need 'jiggling' to get out and is not an indication of failure. The faces that the rollers run on should be inspected for flat spots, cracking and grooves (both the inner and outer faces). for the pain in the arse job this is I would replace all springs and all rollers as a matte...

Re: 1980 CB650Z Cafe Racer Project

I recommend you go for a GPS speedo, I did. No pickup required and you can hide the small GPS antenna

http://www.speedhut.com/gauges/?gclid=C ... wgodD1EA7g

with speed hut you can customise the gauge on-line

Re: Battery for my 650 - Cranking amps?

I would say it could be too small. Reason is I also tried to use a lithium battery with a cold cranking capacity of 120 (same capacity as the one you are looking at) and I could not get a reliable start. What makes me say 'could be' is that when I changed to the larger version I also changed the way...
