Re: Looking for a couple parts

From a 30min. Google search, I can see there are bunches in OR, but the closest I found so far was http://www.cyclepsycho.com/ . That reflector should be a pretty standard part except that some yahoos like to rip them off and toss 'em. The side cover will probably be a little harder to find, but mos...

Re: Tank badge restore

Good job! Another thing that helps get all that old paint off is simple parts/carb cleaner. Let the badges soak overnight and then scrub them with a stiff brush made of something softer than the base metal.

Re: How cold does it have to get before you leave the bike home?

For me it depends on how many other running vehicles I have at my disposal. One year, my truck was down and I was forced to ride on any day with dry roads. I try to keep the truck running now.

Re: Looking for a couple parts

Most motorcycle scrapyards will have at least one bucket of reflectors that they'll let you look through. It'd be a good idea to find out where the salvage yards are in your area. You might even score a side cover.

Re: Exhaust only comes out one pipe and one exhaust valve sticks

Hi. It's been sitting for a long time. Make sure no animals have built a nest inside the exhaust. It's good to check the air filter for that as well, although the mechanic that looked at it should've checked that already.

Re: Misfiring Is Weird?

I don't know about the CV carbs, but on the piston carbs, the choke shaft is split between 1-2 and 3-4. Maybe the choke is sticking on one side or the other?

Arcangel, the sleeping bag provided excellent back support.

5.4L, like Volker said, the first aid kit is not only for yourself.

Go ahead and ride without a helmet. I'll defend your right to choose. But there are other people people in my own world who are counting on me being safe. I even just became a Grandpa this past summer. That and I really don't like bumping my head anymore.

My 2008 Bike Trip to Mt. Washington PART 2

PART 2 We woke just before dawn and I took a walk down to the lakeshore to greet the morning. It was chilly and damp and there was fog on the lake. Sometimes it was difficult to see over into Vermont, but I was able to take a few nice pictures. As the sun rose, I could tell it was going to be anoth...

Re: My 2008 Bike Trip to Mt. Washington

Yes, I slept VERY well. In fact, I never woke up once throughout the night which is highly unusual for me. The luggage looks like a lot, but it really wasn't. Just a little more than I needed. :) What you see there is a sleeping bag, tent, rain gear, 2 chairs, and a backpack with enough clothes in i...

Re: Post accident Bike Inspection

I have a clutch lever off of my 1980 CB650C if it'll work for your bike with the straighter bars and you're having trouble finding one in your area. By the way, I replaced this lever (and perch) last year because it was sloppy loose and I couldn't get the screw out to change only the lever/bushing. ...

My 2008 Bike Trip to Mt. Washington

PART 1 Ok, so I mentioned that my Dad and I were going to ride the bikes up to Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, right? Well, here's how it went. We left our homes in the south central Finger Lakes region of New York on Wednesday morning, Sept. 10 and headed north on Rt.13 out of Ithaca toward Chitt...

Re: Lighting

Hi, Tom. Check the dimensions of your lens and compare them to a rectangular car sealed beam from the eighties. A junkyard would be a good place to do that. If it matches say a H6054 or some other standard size sealed beam, Google for 'H4 rectangular headlight conversion' and you could have one for ...
