Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade
Here is a copy of the post and the author is claming that the C849 coils work as it with the stock pickup and spark units on a 1980 CM400T. He says the primary resistance on the C849 at .7 is just about the same as the .5 on the CM400T. http://www.hondatwins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=7571 O...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade
Hi Pinhead, I got the parts ordered and a local machine shop is making up a new timing plate. It 3/32" thicker hopefully this won't mess up the pickups too much. Gave me a very reasonable price on the machining work. I saw a post on SOHC about a guy who just hooked up the chevy coils without th...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade
Ok, I understand what your getting at. I think I will go to the junkyard this weekend and see if I can scavange up some parts cheap. I think I will leave out the booster to start. Just need basic wiring to test for now. The bike starts up good enough anyway, but might add it latter. Hopefully it wil...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade
Ok Pinhead, Here's the pics of the cb650 pickup in a 1976 cb750 engine. Basically I just took the cam lobe off the cb650 put it into the cb750 and installed the cb650 pickup in the 1976 cb750 engine. As you can see from the pics the cb650 back plate is a little smaller than the cb750, but does fit i...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade
Hi Pinhead, I have a plate from a CB650 I am going to see if it will fit into the CB750 and will let you know how I make out with it. If it fits we can go from there. Now just for learning sake can you explain how the degrees from the crank thing works. So if stock: 195° what does this actually mean...

Re: GM HEI: Cheap and Extremely Effective Ignition Upgrade
Hi Pinhead, I need some ignition advice for my latest project a 1976 CB750 which came with what appears to be a Dyna ignition with stock coils. When the system works is really hauls! They rest of the time I am lucky to get it firing on 2 to 3 cyclinders. I have done timing with a light and switched ...

Re: Rusty fuel tank - POR15 cleaning kit
Hi David, The absolute easiest thing to do is to call a few local radiator shops they don't just do radiator they do gas tank repair too. I found a guy in my area that has done over a 100 of these this year alone and only charges $50 bucks. Another shop said 40 to 50 dollars. Here are the basic step...

Re: hey im new
First Nice job on the bike! Love the cafe seat!
An easy way to test for an air leak is to spray a little WD-40 on the intake boots and see if the bike revs up or slows down. The revs should stay the same if there is no air leaks. Hopefully you don't have cracked intake boots.
Good Luck!

Re: Electrolytic Rust Removal
Have you heard of evaporust you can get it at harbor freight or tractor supply store? Put a gallon in your tank and rotate the tank once or twice a day for a few days to a week and your rust will be gone. Rise out with water, dry with heat gun / hair dryer, add 1 oz or so more evaporust to prevent f...

I had the same problem before fixed it with a 3 way connector and drilled out and then cut to width and length.

How would I check the gap on the pulse generators? Also, is there a way to test my mechanical advance to make sure it is working properly.

Re: WIRING DIAGRAM!!!!
Ouch,
Do you know where I can get a spool of color coded Honda wire, or a spool of colored wire. I would like learn how to separate the circuts, and color coding helps with maintenance and repair.
Thanks!

Re: Starts 1st try on Ether, but takes several trys on gas
I am leaning towards the carbs. A shot of starting fluid and she will start 1st try. If the spark was that weak shouldn't it take several attempt to get er to to run even with starting fluid? I am thinking that I got a clogged slowjet passageway, or improperly adjusted carbs. If this is the case wou...
