Re: Engine "ticks" when hot but not when cold?
Update! The other day whilst having a look around the bike when running, I bumped the #1 spark plug wire and it gave me a trickle shock. I went and replaced all wires and caps with new ones (NGK). (Old ones were stamped 1981) That quiteted things down quite a bit. I still have tick sound, but now it...

Re: Engine "ticks" when hot but not when cold?
Volker not yet, i plan to remove the valve covers (again) tonight! Am also thinking about removing the cylinder head cover to inspect the condition of the rocker arm shafts.... Can you give me an idea of what i should be looking for? Also, i will be posting pictures too, hopefully, this will help us...

Re: Engine "ticks" when hot but not when cold?
Volker I did the procedure you describe for cam chain adjuster. The adjuster is working properly, as near i can tell. during all this, when i had the cylinder head off for inspection, i was able to tighten the adjuster to aid during reassembly. when i looseded the adjuster bolt, i saw the spring mov...

Re: Engine "ticks" when hot but not when cold?
Volker the exhaust increased a little more than the intake, but not much. All valve clearences (8X) did increase with temperature. they all tick a little, only when hot, but the #1 cylinder is the most pronounced, of them all. All springs are good, i did a visual when apart the other day. (springs o...

Re: Engine "ticks" when hot but not when cold?
Volker I managed to check the clearances on my bike the other day, when it was up to operating temperature. (was not an easy task, ended up with a few minor burns!) what i found suprised me a bit, as my exhaust valve gap setting increase to almost 0.12mm (0.006 IN) from the spec. setting of 0.05mm. ...

Re: Engine "ticks" when hot but not when cold?
another question..... (hopefully, am not showing total ignorance here)
Does the gap, between valve adjuster screw and contact surface on valve increase, or decrease with temperature? Or, does it basically remain the same?

Re: Engine "ticks" when hot but not when cold?
Volker
It makes sense that a pitted adjuster bolt would give false readings. I have yet to check them, but plan to inspect them all.
CB650
Am using Shell Rotella 15W-40, (has the JASO-MA approval)
Thanks!

Just curious....
Why would this condition (damaged underside of adjuster bolts) cause a ticking noise only when hot?

Engine "ticks" when hot but not when cold?
All I have a 1982 CB650 Nighthawk, it ticks from the #1 cylinder area when hot, but not when cold?....... (i believe it to be the # 1 cyl. because the noise is most pronounced here) I have adjusted the valve gaps and cam chain tension till blue in the face... and am certain they are set/adjusted cor...

questions about the on-line manual for CB650? print/dwnload
All Can some one please tell me how to: 1) print pages from the on-line PDF manual for the CB650? 2) download the pages/manual if this option is available? I was able to get the a CB 650 manual from e-bay, but there are a few pages missing (page 1-1/1-2 and page 3-5/3-6) that i would like to print o...

o-ring size for cb650 float bowl? (VB44C carbs)
All can some one tell me if there is an o-ring size ( inch or metric size) that will fit the groove, on the float bowl on my CB650 carbs? They are VB44C models. I am reluctant to buy the entire rebuild kit when only this one is needed.. I was able to find some useful information from a quick search ...

Do I really need this special tool?
All I am considering the replacement of those seeping o-rings on the cylinder/cylinder head interface, on my 1982 650 Nighthawk (SOHC/4) I also suspect a leaking head gasket based on the fact that the compression for cylinders 1 & 2 read the same PSI, but are 10~12 PSI less than cylinders 3 &...
