me too
I know what you mean. I already have a new bike and have resigned to selling mine also. I KNOW what the problem is but it is beyond either my expertise or patience to fix it myself. For a person willing to put in the work I even have all the parts they would ever need. I just need to find the right ...

Re: Pink Floyd
Fun video I enjoyed it.
Its a good thing your not in the US, you could be sued for copyright infringement by the RIAA. Or did you have express written consent from the copyright holder? WM could face litigation for distribution. Aren't lawyers great?!

ebay I love you
I just won an auction for a new pair of redwing motorcycle boots (retail $139) for $49 including shipping. I hope they fit well.
Now for the gloves. Any recommendations? no windshield covering the hand grips on my new ride.

not everybody is rich!
I am getting seriously peeved with the state of the market for motorcycle gear. Its getting pretty cool around here on the ride to work in the morning. Now that I have a bike that will start at lower temperatures I want to ride at colder temperatures. It is in the mid 30's F (approx. 1C) here in the...

pilot screw adjustment
So I finally got some time I could work on the bike. I got the carbs swapped out with the ones that I rebuilt. Good news everyone, it runs. and all 4 pipes get hot. though #3 gets a bit hotter. it is now time for me to fine tune all the adjustments. does anyone have tips or suggestions on how to adj...

hit amd miss engines
My friend has a 1942 john deere tractor with a hit and miss engine. they are indeed interesting to witness. This model even has valves on each of the cylinder heads to release part of the compression for easier starting (by hand cranking that big inertia wheel or by pull starting it with my truck) a...

next update
today I finished the task of cleaning and reassembling the carbs i bought. I have never seen of dirtier carbs than these. everything in the float bowls was coated in green sticky goo, I was picking out plant matter of some kind from the air passages, I found a bee in one of the float bowls, etc. etc...

I agree
I agree. highway riding with its constant loads and steady RPMs would be easier on many of the engines parts. the suspension and chassis also don't tend to work as hard on the (typically) smoother highway surfaces.

thanks
well, diagramatically that looks identical to what I see. my sincere hope is that I can just plug the extra ports and go on like no one knows the difference. I have been surfing the net for a couple hours now and cannot find what I want. I think maybe tomorrow I will go visit my local dealer and see...

looking for a resource: know of any?
I figured out why those carbs I bought on ebay are different than the ones I have on my bike. The designation on the side of each carb (VE75A) along with the factory service manual tells me that these carbs are off of the california model. That model of course has extra emission control hardware lik...

i feel like a dare devil
I have been riding for about 6 years now, mostly commuting to work. A couple longer trips (sorry a nighthawk just aint a touring bike). I regularly wear jeans, a t-shirt, and a HJC full face helmet. I have a leather jacket that I wear when its cool to cold but it is not a motorcycle jacket by any me...

My own experiences are similar. I found that the brushes in the starter had disintegrated into dust. there are 4 brushes inside and one of them was GONE meaning I was working on only half a starter. It would start OK cold but never hot. it finally failed completely when a second brush was destroyed ...
