Re: Front brake caliper problem? Or something different?
Just thinking about Volkers idea about the glass plate, if you have a set of feeler gauges you can try sliding a really thin blade between the glass and rotor face to see if its warped anywhere, if you find a gap, gradually add blades until it wont go under and you'll get a fix on how much warp ther...

Re: Front brake caliper problem? Or something different?
Hope the links are useful, I recently was in contact with a guy from italy, he had a similar problem, give this a bit of thought, it might be the case that there is a build up of hard residue in the piston seal grooves in the caliper, if this is happening it will gradually compress the seal tighter ...

Re: Front brake caliper problem? Or something different?
If you can get the caliper off the rotor before opening up the brake system you should be able to pump the pistons clear using the hydraulic method with the brake lever, it wont matter if the fluid wont return as you are already heading for a system strip down anyway. Try this one to start with, it ...

Re: Front brake caliper problem? Or something different?
sounds like you might have a couple of issues going on with this, you haven't said how often the bike gets used, if its been standing for while this could cause the pistons to sieze in the calipers especially if its been kept outside or in a damp garage. old fluid can be a problem, so can residue bu...

Re: 1982 US spec nighthawk side panels & decals
Hi Eliot, new panels for these appear to be non existent, constant searches on ebay have proved fruitless and it seems the only way you are going to get one is either getting one from a bike that's being broken up or someone is willing/able to make you one from a decent original, either fibre glass ...

Re: front brake caliper bleed nipple, what size thread
I think I've finally got to the bottom of it, so in case anyone else needs this info it looks like its going to be 7mm diameter with 1mm pitch, got some input from the guys on the SOHC4 forum, original Honda part number 45224413003, eventually ordered the parts from a main dealer after 2 failed atte...

Safe, Simple Chemical removal of busted taps\bolts\etc.
I've 'borrowed' this from the SOHC4. net site as I could have done with knowing about this a couple of weeks ago, having read the posts on there it seems to have been verified, read on and see what you think, its a verbatum cut & paste from the article on that site Petty much everyone has been t...

front brake caliper bleed nipple, what size thread
during a rebuild of my brake calipers one of the bleed nipples sheared off as it was siezed into the caliper body, that has now been removed by an engineering firm but the new bleed nipple, advertised as being suitable for my bike wont lead into the port. the replacement nipple seems to be 8mm dia w...

Paint job "how to" question
I am wanting/needing to respray my petrol tank and body panels on my '82 650 Nighthawk, my question is mainly around correctly applying the decals. Im no expert on paint jobs, hence the question. Once Ive sprayed the paint onto the tank/panels is there anything else I need to do in terms of sealing ...

Everest, you are an absolute star for finding this site, I'd given up hope of finding a decal set for my Nighthawk, welcome to the forum.

Re: front brake calliper and master cylinder overhaul
Ok, I've got all 4 pistons out of the caliper's, after a bit of head scratching I came up with the idea of using a 22mm socket, a G clamp and a piece of wet suit neoprene to blank off the piston bore that I already pumped out. The wrench end of the 22mm socket is a couple of mil larger diameter than...

Re: front brake calliper and master cylinder overhaul
Ok a bit of tech spec for you so far. I've managed to pump the pistons out to what looks like the limit of the inner seal judging by the teeny seep of hydraulic fluid from one of the pistons. I have a 10mm thick brake pad set between the piston ends and the inside frame of the calliper stopping the ...

Re: front brake calliper and master cylinder overhaul
Hi Volker, thanks, yes 2 pistons in each of the 2 callipers.
CB, am I right in thinking you mean use a grease gun to pump the pistons clear from the calliper body if the callipers are already separated from the hoses ?
