Re: 79 CB650 Blocking the Air Cut Off Valves ( SUCCESS )

Got the carbs back on again and the bike started right up, only needed the choke for 2 minutes, then it idled smoothly and good throttle response. I just plugged the air box side of the carbs. I'm very impressed with this mod. It's cold outside ( -24C )and we had 25cm of snow yesterday, so a test ri...

Re: 79 CB650 Blocking the Air Cut Off Valves

Loctite it is.

I'm going by this thread:

http://www.hondacb650.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=722&hilit=air+cut+off+valve&start=30

It mentions blocking off the other side - but where? I'm just doing the ones circled in my picture.

Re: 79 CB650 Blocking the Air Cut Off Valves

I did a test fit and the nail is snug, the nail head will prevent it from being sucked into the carbs.

I'll install them today and post back the results.

79 CB650 Blocking the Air Cut Off Valves

Read a previous post about blocking the air cut off valve inlet. Trying to replace the valves is a PIA as the carbs have to be separated. I'm thinking of using a cutoff finishing nail and epoxy to block the inlet as shown below: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/gaillarry/CB650Carbs.jpg Any good...

Re: 79 CB650 - Carb and Oil Light Problems

I added about 1/4 litre of more oil and the light went out, oil level is good now. I used new oil, possible one of the jugs didn't have a full litre. Looking at the carb bank I realized they were on a slant, carbs 1 & 2 were not fully in place. Using a wedge I got them to go in fully, now the ca...

79 CB650 - Carb and Oil Light Problems

Bringing my 79 back to life after winter storage. When I put it away last fall, I drained the oil, and removed the oil filter/cover (had to replace the rounded off oil filter bolt). I let it drain all winter. I also pulled the carbs for cleaning. New gaskets and float valves. Putting it back togethe...

Re: Carb Questions

Agreed, no need to tear them apart. I have a small ultrasonic cleaner and the jets, needles are cleaning up really nice.

I'll finish cleaning them. I have a spare o ring. I'll make sure the washer/oring for the pilot screws go in proper sequence.

Re: Carb Questions

I have to look at the other carbs and see if they are missing an o ring.

Looking at the carbs I suspect I have to separate them to get at each one or I may try needle nose pliers.

I'm hesitant on separating the carbs. Just my luck I'll need o rings on the T fittings.

Re: Carb Questions

Thanks for the replies. Couldn't find an o ring for the area circled in my pic. Looked on the parts diagram can't find a part number for it - anyone have it? I guess I'll order 4. I'm using the factory manual, don't have a Clymer. I ordered the pilot jets but can return them to the dealer if not nee...

Carb Questions

My 79 has been difficult to start and bogs down until warmed up - ever since I got the bike. Since its winter, time to clean the carbs. Pulled them this morning, no green crud, look pretty clean. Some questions: 1- mixture/mixture screws were all at 2 3/4 turns out - seems too much to me - book stat...

Re: 750 Stator on a 650 ?

Got a replacement rotor that checks out at 4.9 ohms. When I got the bike the stator/rotor was removed. Confused about the grommet thats by the wires to the neutral & pressure switches. How does it fit - manual doesn't really show it? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/gaillarry/CB650StatorWir...
