Re: Hard starts

Problem Solved! replaced my accelerator pump today. the thing fires up with a bump of the start button. hot or cold, after a ride, everytime. holding my old pump up to the sunlight i discovered the diaphram was pretty much reduced to mesh over the last how ever many years. thanks for the advice, Vol...

Re: Hard starts

thanks for the idle thoughts. i'll give it a look. another discovery - two i should say. examining the function of the choke with my airfilters off i realized that it wasn't closing right away but slowly turning closed due to a weakening spring-which explains increasing idle speed when warming up. i...

Re: Hard starts

hmm, was just thinking about the idle speed knob and realized that by the end of a ride, i've let that out quite a bit , thus cold starts have been attempted with that way out. just tightened it a few turns and the bike fired right up. i'll have to do this a few times today to see if this is just a ...

Re: Hard starts

one more thing that may or may not be an issue. being that the new petcock came with a new screen (inside the tank) is it possible that the inline fuel filter i have between the petcock and the carbs is over kill?

Re: Hard starts

yesterday i put my clean tank on with is brand new petcock, cleaned the bowl for the accelerator pump out, which had lots of deposits and a little wear on the rubber diaprham but not too much, cleaned out the tiny fuel port in that bowl, remounted the carbs and the tank, filled it up, gas began pour...

Re: Hard starts

thanks, gents. yup, gas tank is/was a flippin' mess. the por15 that i used last summer has removed itself from the tank walls and is falling in on itself. took the petcock out and banged it on my driveway and the thing was full of rust and silver por15 fragments. took the petcock apart and found tha...

Hard starts

Hey folks, i have a 81 650 that does not like to start. in a nutshell, i don't think gas is getting into the engine when turning over. it sounds dry. anyone know if there are any vacuum issues with these carbs on cold starts? any obvious thing i should check for? i've put pod filters on the bike but...

Re: 1980 CB650 New Exhaust

they do have them actually. the site is pretty tricky to navigate but they have a 4 to 1 and 2 versions of a 2 to 2 for the cb 650. try going to their home page and downloading the catalog pdf. i was going to get one until i realized my bike needed tons of work that doesn't include italian pipes.

Re: Serious gas tank problem

i just used por-15 this weekend in an old rusty tank. it hasn't completely cured yet but i was amazed at the stuff that came out. rusty black liquid and chunks of old liner that looked like orange peels. plus it leaves a nice silver coat inside the tank. give it a shot. be prepared to spend some tim...

Re: Won't start after washing

i was just looking at some OEM generator prices. yeah. ouch. i'm also in the san francisco bay area where everything is twice the price it should be. so at this point im assuming i'll be buying the bike again if i plan on keeping it. i'll let you know what happens.

Re: Won't start after washing

a friend and i got into the washed CB this weekend and found the problem was water in the carbs. (the rubber connectors between the engine and the carbs are a little hardened and not sitting properly letting water sneak in) along with a really dirty tank and gunked up petcock valve. after charging t...
